2D Textiles
My work is all hand-stitched and built up in layers of fabric and thread. I rarely plan in detail, preferring to allow the work to evolve organically, using a combination of deliberately unpredictable techniques and instinctive decision-making. I often splash dye, incorporate fabric offcuts as they come from the bag, or stitch in collected materials, such as sheep’s wool or thread ends. I enjoy mismatching line and colour to create different rhythms and combine my stitching and organza in a similar way to when I’m using drawn lines and watercolour.
