Urban Sketching
I have always recorded my life in sketchbooks and, in 2008, became heavily involved in the Urban Sketching movement. As a result, my initial explorations into stitched textiles were reinterpretations of these sketches. I began with Commuters in August 2016, from a contour drawing created on a train. Death Will Tremble, followed, reworking a sketch painted while sitting on the street in York. Very Warm Welcome was the result of a month long residency Urban Sketching into Textiles, in Orchard Square Shopping Centre, in Sheffield. Each piece uses quite different techniques, as I experimented with the new language of fabric and thread.
